Our partner's corner
Lord Michelham of Hellingly Foundation

A long-standing GERES partner, the Foundation began supporting our passive solar greenhouses and houses project in the Indian Himalayas in 2004. Since 2012, it has continued to support projects in West Africa, focusing on improved access to productive and domestic energy and, from this year, the structuring of low-energy domestic cooker supply chains in Mali (Bamako and Sikasso).
CO2Solidaire
Co-funding a development project throught carbon offsetting
In response to the energy challenges in Afghanistan, GERES has been running programmes since 2002 based on energy efficiency in housing. Improving the energy efficiency of buildings using passive solar architecture techniques together with thermal insulation can reduce energy consumption by around 50%, with investment overcosts of less than 10%. As a result of fuel savings, each of the 3 000 houses with a conservatory providing heating will save at least 1.5 tonnes CO2 equivalent per year. To complement institutional grants, GERES relies on carbon offsetting to fund this project. The film "Bioclimatic housing in Afghanistan", produced by Benjamin Rogez and Mathilde Sonnet on behalf of CO2Solidaire, provides a good grasp of this mechanism for promoting social carbon.
