GERES joins Global LEAP: a global forum for a global challenge

Partners of the Sustainable Energy for All initiative launched in 2012 by the United Nations, GERES joins now the Global Lighting and Energy Access Partnership (Global LEAP). GERES is spearheading its effort, alongside other actors, with the purpose of providing universal access to modern energy services by 2030 in a world where 1.3 billion people still have no electricity.

Africa Carbon Forum 2012: improved cookstoves, an efficient and clean solution

On April 17, 2012, Climate Change Unit Manager Swan Fauveaud was invited to speak at a round-table in Ethiopia, which took place right before the Africa Carbon Forum being held from April 18 to April 20. Conjointly organized by the United Nations and the World Bank, this “Workshop on Promoting Low Carbon Energy in Africa through Carbon Finance” was aimed at examining how the latest developments in the world of carbon finance could foster the project development in the African clean energy sector and boost new development initiatives.

Energy For All: a civil society call

GERES joins a group of 70 civil society organisations from Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa, to call on EU leaders to commit to eradicating energy poverty and achieving universal energy access by 2030. With a particular focus on Sub-Saharan Africa, as the region most acutely affected, the group calls for increased political will to deliver energy for all and the quantity and quality of EU funding to make this a reality.

The Sustainable Rural Development project started in Tajikistan

The project led by GERES in Tajikistan aims to improve living conditions of 1 000 rural households among the most vulnerable (more than 5 children, with disabled persons). GERES leans on 10 years of experiment in mountainous areas and cold climate (Afghanistan, India, and Mongolia) to strengthen the agricultural activities and improve the comfort in the housing environment.
