Aubagne, 20th February 2012 – GERES will present its European project SHARE in Marseille on 16th March 2012. This one-hour direct workshop organized under the aegis of the World Water Forum will be the opportunity for public administrators, local decision makers, hydropower companies, alpine rivers users and defenders to discuss the future of sustainable hydropower.
The preservation of the environment and the development of sustainable energy are nowadays, important aims for many stakeholders. Indeed, what if developing sustainable hydropower was affecting the rivers ecosystem? In this case we would need to find a balance to maintain a reasonable level of hydroelectricity production while still respecting the biodiversity and environment. The European project SHARE might be an answer.
The largest global event for water will be held this year in Marseille from 12th to 17th March 2012. Labelled “Time for solutions”, the forum will bring together all actors of current issues related to water.
In the context of the priority action 2.3: Harmonizing energy and water, the SHARE project will present its actions and solutions at its direct workshop on Friday, March 16th at Parc Chanot from 1:15 p.m. to 2:15 p.m.
The SHARE project has already been selected as a solution by the Forum.
The SHARE network is open to all stakeholders concerned by hydropower and river issues in the Alps.

About the SHARE project
SHARE – Sustainable Hydropower in Alpine Rivers Ecosystems – involves 5 alpine countries (Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Slovenia) in reaching one goal: balancing hydropower and river ecosystems’ conservation in the Alps. To do so, SHARE equips local administrators and decision makers with custom-made tools in their decision making process:
- Software supporting a multicriteria approach to assess and compare different management alternatives of hydropower plants and rivers.
- Databases on hydropower and rivers’ health listing law and legal framework, interlocutors and resource experts, vulnerable stretches and energy resources from a local to an international scale.
The GERES contribution to the project SHARE is financially supported by the Program Alpine Space (territorial cooperation of the European Union) and the GDF Suez Foundation.
