Meeting in Cotonou on February 24, 2026, the project\u2019s institutional, technical, and financial partners\u2014including the General Directorate of Energy and Rural Planning (DGPER),<\/a> the French Development Agency (AFD)<\/a>, and Geres teams in West Africa\u2014commended the achievements of the first phase and reaffirmed their shared commitment to making the A3E project a regional showcase for inclusive energy transition.<\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=”https:\/\/www.geres.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/IMG_2839-scaled-1.jpg” _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” title_text=”IMG_2839-scaled” hover_enabled=”0″ sticky_enabled=”0″][\/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n Many cooking and food-processing activities still rely on inefficient, costly, and polluting technologies, with direct consequences for women\u2019s health, incomes, and the pressure on wood resources. At the same time, in many rural areas of Benin<\/a>, access to reliable energy remains a major obstacle to the development of productive activities. While mini-grids and solar solutions have enabled significant progress, they do not always fully meet the needs of very small businesses, artisans, and agri-food processing groups. At the same time, many cooking and processing activities still rely on inefficient, costly, and polluting technologies, with direct consequences for women\u2019s health, incomes, and the pressure on wood resources.<\/p>\n It is precisely to address these challenges that the A3E project is implementing an integrated approach centered on access to electricity for productive uses and the dissemination of more efficient cooking equipment. The first phase notably supported the energy incubation of very small enterprises connected to mini-grids, while also fostering the development of the improved productive cookstove sector. Preliminary results confirm that an integrated approach to energy access\u2014taking into account production, economic uses, and energy efficiency\u2014is a powerful driver of low-carbon local development.<\/p>\n Learn more about the A3E project\u00a0<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Beyond technical performance, the project aims to strengthen rural economies in a sustainable manner.<\/strong> Energy is viewed as a tool for transformation that supports income generation, local employment, improved working conditions, and regional resilience.
