As part of the FRESH project<\/a>, eight vulnerable households \u2013 five in B\u00e9ni Mellal and three in Tata \u2013 have benefited from renovation work designed to improve the energy efficiency and thermal comfort of their homes in the face of extreme heat<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Energy audits carried out beforehand helped identify the main sources of heat gain. They notably showed that nearly 70% of heat entered through flat roofs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In B\u00e9ni Mellal<\/strong>, the work included installing shading structures on rooftops, improving skylights and sealing certain areas through which heat could enter the homes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In Tata<\/strong>, flat roofs were insulated using extruded polystyrene, protected by a screed and tiling, while skylights were improved with double glazing.<\/p>\n

In both cities, adiabatic cooling systems were also provided to households to improve their comfort during periods of extreme heat<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Encouraging Initial Feedback<\/h2>\n

Initial feedback from beneficiary households has been encouraging and suggests an improvement in thermal comfort inside the homes.<\/strong> However, it is still too early to draw definitive conclusions.<\/span><\/p>\n

During the summer, further audits and surveys will be carried out with beneficiary families to assess their satisfaction and more accurately measure the impact of the renovation work.<\/p>\n

Extending These Solutions to More Households<\/h2>\n

The FRESH project<\/a> is now entering a deployment phase aimed at enabling more households to benefit from renovation solutions adapted to hot climates<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

In B\u00e9ni Mellal and Tata, the project\u2019s local partners, AESVT and CAT<\/strong>, have already identified several interested households. Technical visits and measurements will help determine which renovation works can be carried out and define the contribution arrangements for each household.<\/p>\n

Lessons learned from this phase will also contribute to discussions around a potential second phase of the FRESH project<\/strong>, while the current phase is set to continue until 2027<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The FRESH project is implemented by Geres together with its local partners, AESVT and CAT, with financial support from the French Development Agency (AFD)<\/strong> and the Fondation pour le Logement des D\u00e9favoris\u00e9s<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
