Local policy and land use

Faced with the global issues of energy, environment and climate change, many different solutions can be developed in accordance with the unique features of each territory. However, the long-term viability of these solutions depends on their acceptability by both communities and their elected representatives. GERES raises local awareness of these issues and empowers communities to manage their environmental assets responsibly through increased local governance capacity.

GERES works with local public authorities and government agencies to support the emergence, and build the capacity of, social structures capable of managing long-term solutions and governing effectively in a time of environmental change. GERES promotes the transfer of know-how and skills, consolidates partners’ capabilities and avoids replacing local stakeholders with external resources.
